Chanel Belt likely from 1986-1989 at the beginning of Karls tenure at Chanel.

This is a very vintage and rare belt that does not come up on the market very often.

Can only accommodate a 28-29" waist.

Please check all pictures for all damage and wear.

During the late 1980s, Karl Lagerfeld heavily leaned into theatrical, self-referential humor by placing the silhouette of Gabrielle "Coco" Chanel directly onto garments and massive costume jewelry. On the Spring 1987 catwalk, this exact model was integrated into the styling to playfully contrast classic Chanel tailoring:
  • The Styling: Models walked the runway wearing Lagerfeld's freshly updated, vibrant pastel and monochromatic tweed suits. Rather than using standard leather ties or thin waist chains, he utilized these bold, structured triple-stitched wide leather bands to tightly cinch the waistlines, ensuring the oversized golden silhouette sat perfectly flat at the front center of the waist.
  • The Companion Pieces: This profile buckle wasn't alone in the collection. The Spring 1987 collection featured matching oversized gold profile drop-earrings, massive Coco silhouette brooches pinned to the lapels of coats, and large profile-shaped medallions dangling from heavy 24k gold-plated necklaces.
Historical archives and vintage luxury catalogs safely document this exact piece as a cornerstone of the 1987 Spring-Summer Accessory Collection. Finding it in a size 75 with a clear, structured band makes it an incredible museum-grade piece of Karl Lagerfeld’s early runway history. [1]
